
PRP is a program that provides social, behavioral, and group support. This program could be provided in groups and individually where consumers may attend part-time or full-time basis. PRP aims to cover the overall needs of a person and help them live independently, develop relational and social skills, behavioral self-management, and more.
The type of assistance and the activities in the program are determined based on the needs of the consumer. PRP focuses more on the potentials of a person rather than their condition.
Child and Adolescent PRP
PRP for adolescents and children is focused on reducing symptoms of their disabilities and help them be more integrated into their community and make healthy relationships with people the same age.
Youth are paired with counselors that interact with them at least 3 times per month off-site and at least once per month on-site (wellness management).
Adult PRP
PRP for adults is geared towards regaining a person’s sense of independence by helping them develop or redevelop social skills, decision making about self-care, relational and social skills, and life and work skills.
Adults are paired with counselors that interact with them at least twice weekly off-site. Adults
may also participate in on-site groups (wellness management).
Other relevant characteristics for Adult are the Admission criteria for psychiatric rehabilitation services are met as follows:
1.The person is 18 years or older and currently has or has a history of a serious mental illness, based upon medical records, which includes a diagnosis by a psychiatrist, that includes:
Schizophrenia, Major Mood Disorder, Psychotic disorder NOS, Schizoaffective Disorder or
Borderline Personality Disorder.
AND
2.As a result of the mental illness, the person has a moderate to severe functional impairment that interferes with or limits role performance in at least one (1) of the following domains: educational (i.e., obtaining a high school or college degree); social (i.e., developing a social support system); vocational (i.e., obtaining part-time or full-time employment); self-maintenance (i.e., managing symptoms, understanding their illness, managing money, living more independently) relative to the person’s ethnic/cultural environment.
AND
3.The person chooses to participate in the program.
Psychiatric Rehabilitation Program (PRP) includes the following:
- Reducing the frequency and length of Psychiatric hospitalization
- Teaching the consumer learn basic self-care management and social skills; which are vital in work environment interactions.
- Helping consumers feel supported and teach them healthy coping strategies.
- Determining behavioral issues and addressing them.
- Setting challenging, yet achievable goals.
- Providing them access to community-based resources and services.
